# FAQ

> Answers to common questions about the Bronto observability platform, including ingestion, retention, querying, integrations, and account configuration.

## How do I change the UI theme?

Open your profile menu in the lower-left corner, then under **Theme** select the **sun** icon for Light mode, the **moon** icon for Dark mode, or the **monitor** icon for System mode, which follows your device's appearance setting.

## Why didn't sending metrics or traces create a dataset?

Datasets and collections are for **logs only**. OpenTelemetry metrics sent to `/v1/metrics` appear in the [Metric Explorer](https://docs.bronto.io/metrics/explore-metrics.md), and traces sent to `/v1/traces` appear in [Explore Traces](https://docs.bronto.io/tracing/explore-traces.md). They do not create or appear in datasets or collections, even when the request includes `x-bronto-dataset` or `x-bronto-collection`.

`service.name` and `service.namespace` still provide useful service identity on metrics and traces, but their Dataset and Collection mapping applies only to log records.

## Do I need to create a log dataset before sending data?

No. When Bronto successfully receives a log event with a dataset and collection name, it creates that log destination automatically if it does not already exist. If you are sending metrics or traces, check the corresponding explorer instead of waiting for a dataset to appear.

## Can I reuse dataset and collection names?

Yes. To send a new log source to an existing Bronto destination, reuse its dataset and collection names. For OpenTelemetry logs, these map to `service.name` and `service.namespace`; integrations that route through URL parameters use `service_name` and `service_namespace`.

## Does the Bronto web app automatically log me out?

Yes. Bronto logs you out after 24 hours of inactivity unless you configure a custom timeout under **Session Management** in your profile settings.

## Can I delete datasets or individual log events?

You can delete a dataset by hovering over it, selecting the **settings cog** icon, and then selecting **Delete**. This permanently deletes the dataset and all of its data. You cannot delete individual log events.

## Where are Bronto's servers located?

Bronto has infrastructure in the EU and US. Your data is stored in the region where your account was created, indicated by `EU` or `US` in the account URL. See [Data Residency](https://docs.bronto.io/Account-Management/Security.md#data-residency) for more information.
